I just had to write about what a simple, great day it was today.
Katherine and I got up and walked to the mailbox at 7am because it was only 85 degrees. We met our Texan neighbor with the dogs. We colored and played speed monopoly with Geoff - he beat me by a landslide. Elizabeth and Dan came over for the afternoon and we went swimming after Geoff had to leave for work. We had fun political discussions and enjoyed cooling off in the pool.
Katherine is quite the swimmer. She has learned to lead the way while I hold her, kicking her legs and she's starting to move her arms. She is getting braver to jump from the steps into my arms. She is always curious about other kids and wants to befriend them, but as soon as they don't respond to her orders, she throws a tantrum... ugh. Some unseen insult occurred this time and she WAILED like someone was breaking her all her fingers... We left shortly thereafter.
Elizabeth and Dan said goodbye. Katherine and I had dinner and got cleaned up. She prefers showers lately and in the shower she started singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, doing the actions (as best a 20-mos old can do them) and it was awesome. She remembered the song on her own. We read stories afterward. She kissed her hand and then patted every character she saw in the books. She saw that one of them was crying and she asked "what happened? crying?" and she patted her. A little later she grabbed a lock of my wet curly hair and said "prilly head" [pretty] and gave me kisses. When I said "I love you" tonight, she responded with "aluvfu." I melted.
Does motherhood get any better??
"Play to me, son! Play to me!"
