But before we get to California: This was taken the Sunday before we left... Our girl is just looking old to me. She goes to the church like owns the place. She has her own friends, both young and old, and wants to do her own thing.
Family Home Evening is just never complete without dancing to top it off...
Okay, back to our California trip....
We spent a day at the beach. We actually stayed in Carlsbad and we loved it. I don't know if it was the time of year, but there were a TON of families. It was not overrun by college students crazy teenagers. Stroller moms galore. It wasn't too crowded and the weather was TO DIE FOR PERFECT!
Katherine really enjoyed herself this year. She didn't want to get out of the water if she could help it. It's like she finally understood how fun it is to jump the waves (whereas last year, a wave knocked her down and she wouldn't get in the water again).
She rode her first amusement park rides at Sea World. Abby's tea cup ride was her favorite - Geoff was such a good sport going on them with her since they make us both dizzy... We loved the Sea Lion show and the Shark Attack the best (where you walk through a tube in the aquarium and the sharks swim over head). But I think Katherine's favorite thing at Sea World was the polar bear cave at the children's play area. She screamed every time the recording of the polar bear roared and pretended it chased her out of there.
We ate out every meal and the restaurants were awesome. I had to swallow my expectations of getting Katherine to eat anything beside fries, chicken nuggets and grilled cheese. She did really well managing herself at the restaurant, for the most part, but in this picture, Geoff captured me shushing her for getting too loud. He loves the look on my face.
We timed it perfectly one evening to catch the sunset. It was breath taking. Katherine complained the whole time about being tired. Since we're usually such sticklers about bedtime, I thought, it won't kill her to stay up a little... Well, she was wild the rest of the night and didn't go to sleep until after 9pm... and up at 6:30am. I attempted one head shot of the two of us at the beach and she wouldn't stop squishing my face with her hands... The following is a picture of me scolding her to stop... and it was the best one... LOL!

Our last day there, we had lunch in Old Town San Diego and went to the park at Mission Bay that had a fabulous playground. It was good to have Katherine run around for a couple of hours before the long car ride home. Geoff and I just enjoyed the breeze and cooler weather. We must go back again soon!
It was dreamy and didn't last long enough.
