Miss K has taken a new interest in writing. She can manage an "A" and a "T, but her favorite is the letter "H." She continues the 2 yr old tradition of "Stop! I do it!... Help me, Mommy!" In her assertion for independence, she has learned to put on her own clothes and she asks for help with the "rabbit," to tie a bow. She can wash her own hair and spread the peanut butter and jelly.
Big accomplishment: Katherine can swim unassisted with a kick board!! She still is hesitant to go under water, but I'm finally willing to get my hair wet so I can show her how to breathe and move her arms. She's doing great and will start lessons next week. I have no doubt this little water baby will be mobile by the end of the month.
With the heat of the summer, we are going on play dates as often as possible. Dress up continues to be a favorite. She is always pretending to be a damsel in distress who needs to be rescued. She'll lay on the floor on her tummy and reach up, calling out "Hold my hand! I can't do it! Help me!" She has also started to line up her building blocks to walk on them like hot coals - sure, it's a twisted ankle waiting to happen, but it keeps her occupied for a good half an hour!
Our naughty princess' true favorite game is locking the door. With Geoff going out of town, I started to get nightmares of her locking us in her room with no one coming home to rescue us (me). Sure enough, Sunday night when I started thinking we need to get Geoff packed, I found our bedroom door locked from the inside! Home Depot was already closed, so I took a chance and drove to my friend's house to see if they had any skinny keys. She had one I could borrow and taught me how to use it. The next morning, she did it twice more before 9am! I was so glad I had a key, but I made her sit in time out and then try to fix the door for 10 minutes and put her in timeout again... She hasn't played the game since then...
** Warning: Not for the faint-hearted***
The potty training seems to go in spurts. Some days are accident-free and others - I don't know WHAT happens! Yesterday morning, she had 3 accidents at Ella Shea's house (her place of near perfect potty experiences). Last week we were playing on the mall's delivery truck and she pooped... I mean, POOPED. Geoff cleaned up the car while I raced into Dillard's trying to find the nearest bathroom with Katherine in my arms and it dripping all down her legs, into her shoes, onto my clothes. It mulitplied as I smeared it off of her and the stank would not come off. The sink I washed her clothes in clogged and would not drain and she stood there naked until Geoff could bring us a change of clothes from the car... The worst poop ever...
It really makes me look forward to our plane ride to Michigan in two weeks... Think she'll get it by then??
